A winkin’ and blinkin’ kind of morning
It is 6 am. I throw my legs over the side of the bed, my feet hit the ground and I head downstairs. I’m winkin’ and blinkin’ and trying to clear out the cobwebs from my brain and rubbin’ my eyes awake. As I stumble through the house, my mind is already clicking on my list of “to do’s” for the day.
The dogs just got up and they are herding me to our favorite place on the living room floor for some morning love. From the moment I greet them every morning they bounce and wag and grin with excited anticipation. Not only about being with me, but because this is their best moment of the day. There is no worry, no have to’s, no supposed to’s … no agenda, schedule or plan.
They are in the moment. Really in the moment of celebrating our time together. Wiggling butts, wagging tails and gentle licks help all of us savor this moment. For the dogs, this is the best time of the day. Until the next minute … when that is the best time of their day.
What if I celebrated every new day with the same enthusiasm as my dogs? What if I savored the moments of having loved ones near me just because they are near me? What if I shoved the “to-do’s” out of my mind and focused on the moment? How would that change my satisfaction and joy of the day? How would it change your day?
How about we try it? I will if you will.
