Well-being in the Workplace

Fall is my favorite time of the year

Fall is my favorite time of the year.  I have fond memory’s as a child of raking leaves into piles just to scatter them all over by jumping and playing in them. Roasting marshmallow by the fire, carving jack-o-lanterns, hay rides and hot apple cider.

I would not have enough energy to do my chores my mother asked but I could literally walk or run miles on Halloween carrying a pillow case half full of candy.

I love the crisp cool air, sweatshirts, scare crows.

However in my rushing around this fall, living in the - there is so much to do world. I have not noticed that the weather had changed or that the leaves had changed into the colorful palette of fall.  I have been to involved with the should do’s, and need to do’s .  My thoughts are in of the past – the should haves’, or in the future, the should do’s or need to do’s.  I had forgotten to be in the now, the present moment, to just be for a moment or two.

As I walk our dog, Aussie, yesterday.  It was really more of a step and pause as she sniffed.  I noticed a scarlet red leaf against the emerald green lawn.  It was so elegant , yet simple.  It took that bright glistening red leaf to jar my attention away from my daily mundane task, to look at the beauty around me.  It beckoned me to stop and enjoy the change of the seasons. I then took a moment to reflect, to remember the feeling as a child playing in the leaves, to remember to enjoy the fall season.

That one lone leaf reminded me that I need to take the time just be. Enjoying the time to admire the beauty in my life is just as important to my wellbeing as getting things done.

Wishing you the moment to just be.
