Flip The Switch
Not tall enough yet to stand at the counter, she stands on a foot stool as close to her aunt as possible. Today she is learning how to make a pie crust. They laugh at her attempts to place the Swiss cheese looking dough into the pie tin.
Her aunt, a famous pie maker, at least in their family, wishes to share quality time with her niece. Creating more that just the experience, this time creates feelings of accomplishment and could instill a love for cooking. Her uncle teases her that the messy, freshly baked pie looks like cow dung. Even though he is just teasing, feelings of failure wash over her. “I’ll never be able to get it right.” Now an adult, when she thinks about entertaining friends for a meal those feeling rush back, creating a great deal of anxiety.
We spend our childhood learning all of what we need to know about ourselves. Or so we think. As a child we absorb rules, expectations and information trying to fit in, creating conclusions about ourselves that will enable us either to survive or to become successful. As adults we still operate our lives through our child’s eyes and belief system. Guess what? Almost all the negative learning, programming and conditioning during childhood is incorrect, incomplete or irrelevant to our lives and success.

You spend all of childhood learning how to behave, what to say, how to think about yourself. Is this programming helping or hindering the life you desire?
If your answer is hindering, you have a rest button. You are free to choose your thoughts and beliefs about yourself. Flip the switch. Create your own conclusions reprogram your thoughts. Unlearn what no longer serves you.
