My Lady
Lady is a trooper. She puts up with inexperience and doubt. She goes through thick and thin when requested to. With just a little encouragement, she responds with steady confidence, agility, and with the flexibility of a ballerina. She graciously glides through and sometimes forcefully pushes her way over any obstacle she is directed to attempt.
Who is this Lady? A successful business woman. A trained dog. None of the above. Lady is my 2003 Jeep Liberty. Her full name is Lady Liberty. I named her that just because it was the only thing that came to mind at the time. I soon came to realize what her name really meant.
From the outside she may look to most like an ordinary Jeep Liberty, but under her classily style she is dressed a bit differently. Her undergarments are fortified. In other words she has skid plates from front to back to cover her delicate areas. She has tubular steel rails on each side to fend off those aggressive advances from the hard heads (rocks) she encounters. She is a bit taller than the others do to her bigger tires and a 2 ½ inch lift, but she has adjusted well. She feels good about herself just as she is. Besides many of the other vehicles that she hangs around with desire and admires a Lady that is a bit taller with big shoes.
Lady and I have been on trips to see bits of the countryside many will never see. She has introduced me to the majestic views of the hazy green mountains of Virginia. We have discovered together how many shades of green there are in the forest as the sunlight attempts to cast its beams of light through the thick canopy above. Together we have discovered once abandoned grave sites, run down chapels, and remnants of old home sites. We have seen a single glistening white flower in the mist of yards of velvety emerald green moss.
We have splashed in rivers and creeks, drove over jagged rocks, and climbed over downed trees. And Lady loves to get dirty. She does not wallow in the dirt or mud. She prefers to make her way graciously and gracefully through the thick sludge so not to erode the land for others to be able to enjoy the experience.
Lady knows when to ask for guidance. She knows her limits and at times she may need a gentle tug or pull from her bigger brothers and sisters she travels with. She never travels alone to these magnificent destinations.
Lady has provided many adventures that have stretched me pasted my comfort zone. She has provided the opportunity to partake in the beauty of nature. Lady offers me the freedom to explore, expand, and to experience life on more levels than I could have ever imagined. Yes, Lady Liberty is the perfect name for her.
